About IEI

• It is Largest multi-disciplinary professional body of engineers encompassing 15 (fifteen) engineering disciplines with a membership of more than 8.2 Lakhs.

•  

• The Main Objective of this Body is to promote and advance the engineering and technology.

•  

• It  was established in 1920 and incorporated by Royal Charter in 1935.
• It has its headquarters at Kolkata
• It has 104 Centres in India and several Overseas Chapters.

•  

• To desiminate the knowledge and to identify and solve the public  issues through six Foras and Organ. i.e.

• 1. Engineering Staff College of India (ESCI) - Hyderabad.  

  2. National Design and Research Forum (NDRF) - Bangalore.

  3. Water Management Forum (WMF) - Ahmedabad.

  4. Rural Development Forum - Kolkata.

  5. Sustainable Development Forum - Patna.

  6. Safety and Quality Forum (SQF) - New Delhi.

   

• IEI has been recognized as Scientific and Industrial Research Organization by the Ministry of Science & Technology, Govt. of India and besides conducting its own research, provides Grant-in-Aid to UG/PG/ PhD students of Engineering Institutes & Universities.
• It is a first professional body to represent India in several International Bodies, such as the World Mining Congress (WMC), the World Federation of Engineering Organizations (WFEO), the Commonwealth Engineers’ Council (CEC), the Federation International du Beton (fib), and the Federation of Engineering Institutions of South and Central Asia (FEISCA). It also has bilateral agreements with a number of professional societies across the globe.

• IEI, in collaboration with Springer, regularly publishes peer-reviewed international journal in five series, covering fifteen engineering disciplines

  Member Ships

  FIE

              Fellow is the highest grade amongst the IEI Corporate Members. The Minimum Eligibility is

              (a)       40 years, at the time application.

              (b)       BE/B.Tech or equivalent qualification recognized by the Institution.

              (C)       Professional Experience of atleast 15 years and holding a position of                     high             responsibility. Professors/ Associate Professors working/worked                  in Universities / Engineering Colleges possibility.

  MIE

  Member is a senior grade of IEI Corporate Member’s category and is eligible to use designatory words MIE after the name.

              (a)       30 years, at the time application.

              (b)       BE/B.Tech or equivalent qualification recognized by the Institution.

              (C)       Professional Experience of atleast 8 years holding a position of                               responsibility.

  AMIE

  Associate Member is an initial grade of IEI Corporate Member’s category

   

              (a)       21 years, at the time application.

              (b)       BE/B.Tech or equivalent qualification recognized by the Institution.

   

  CHARTERED ENGINEER’S CERTIFICATE

              After attaining certain experience,  any Corporate Member can apply for Chartered Engineer’s Certificate from IEI.

              (a)       To Possesses self-employed consultant in Engineering Profession in                    India and abroad.

              (b)       This certification provides value addition during the empanelment as                     Valuer, Loss Assessor with various Government bodies and Financial                     Institutions.

• IEI Members of various Educational Institutions are given preference in the disbursement of grant-in-Aid for R&D Activities.
• Corporate Members (MIE/FIE only) may be empanelled as internal project guide in Section B examination conducted by IEI.

• Corporate Members may avail the opportunity of staying in the IEI Guest houses spread over all important locations in India.
